What is BaltimoreComedy.org?

Purpose

Baltimore Comedy.org is a free, centralized platform connecting Baltimore-area comedy audiences with comedians, shows, and open mics. It operates on a principle of open access and minimal gatekeeping: any comedian or show can be listed.

Baltimore’s local comedians are as talented as anyone appearing on a Netflix special or HBO special. What they lack isn’t skill, it’s the marketing budget and institutional backing that comes with a corporate deal. Baltimore Comedy.org’s model is built around that gap: since the platform can’t out-spend a studio’s marketing budget, it competes by out-organizing — pooling audience attention and community support in one place instead of leaving each comedian to build an audience alone.

Baltimore is stronger together.

How to Participate — For Comedians

BaltimoreComedy.org is free, open to anyone, and not run by relationships or favorites — here’s exactly how to get involved, in three steps you can do in any order.

1. Get Listed

This is the baseline — it’s what makes you findable at all.

What it gets you: a profile on the Comedians page (bio, style, socials) and your shows on the calendar, all searchable by anyone looking for local comedy.

How: fill out the Add a Comedian form and/or Add a Show form at BaltimoreComedy.org/submit. Takes a minute or two.

What happens after: every submission gets reviewed before it goes live — not for “is this comedian funny enough” just for basic completeness (real links, working info, you’re a real person). Once approved, it’s up.

2. Send a Hype Clip

Once you’re listed, you can DM a short video hyping up the Baltimore comedy scene — we’ll publish it under Baltimore Comedy.org’s own branding and promote it through our channels.

What makes a good clip: it doesn’t have to be a produced ad. A phone video works. The strongest ones tend to follow a simple shape:

  1. A hook — a punchy line or question about Baltimore or comedy in the first couple seconds
  2. The clip — your bit, or you talking about the scene
  3. A quick mention of BaltimoreComedy.org at the end

The one unfortunate hard rule: F-words and slurs have to be bleeped in anything published under our branding. This isn’t a judgment on your material or your right to reclaim language used against you — we totally support that for you. It’s specifically that this content goes out under our name, on feeds we don’t control who’s scrolling. If there’s language that needs bleeping, send the clip and we’ll handle it, or send a version already edited.

How: DM the clip to @baltimore_comedy_org on Instagram.

3. Get Auto-Reposted Going Forward

Once you’ve sent one hype clip, you’re on the list — tag @baltimore_comedy_org on any future event posts and we’ll automatically repost them. No re-submitting, no waiting on review. The only requirement: the event must take place within an hour’s drive of Baltimore.

A Few Things Worth Knowing

  • None of this is pay-to-play. Every step above is free (in dollar amounts, but not in time), and being listed or reposted doesn’t depend on follower count, how funny a reviewer personally finds you, or any relationship with the page.
  • Style is wide open. Stand-up, improv, sketch, crowd work, first-timer or headliner — all welcome. We’re not curating for a “type” of comedy.
  • You can always ask for something taken down. If a clip you sent ever needs to come down, just ask — no explanation required.
